aisforamy: december 2011 (Penance)
Last Wednesday, I had a strange few minutes. I had stood up from my desk, and computer fell off the desk. I thought maybe I had tripped over a cord or something, but there was no apparent reason for it. Still, it sits ont he very edge, so I didn't think much of it. Then, I left the room to go to the kitchen, and one of the picture frames in the hallway fell off the wall (a picture of me and my kids). Then I came back into the room, a DVD case tumbled from the shelf in front of me.

I commented on AIM about it to Sam, we both kinds said, "weird." End of story, right? Now, a couple of days later, I realise that last Wednesday was my mother's birthday. Those of you who know me are probably aware that my mother passed away two days before her birthday, seven years ago.

Maybe she was trying to tell me something? Like maybe I spend too much time on the computer and not enough with my kids? Or maybe I should watch a movie with my kids instead? *shrugs* I dunno.

Either way, it makes me laugh. I sure do miss that old lady! She'd be 72 if she was alive, and probably would have had her licence revoked for inattentiveness while driving. XD!! She and may dad are probably having a great time up there in heaven!

In other news, one of our baby turtles is sick. :(

It was never really healthy from day one, but he seemed to be getting a bit worse last night. I am going to go out to get some advice, a couple of special lightbulbs, and maybe some turtle vitamins or whatever to see if that helps at all. I am considering separating him from the other two, just in case it's contagious.

I hope the little guy is all right!

Link of the day: Make Tamales! It's getting to be that time of year! This is by far the best recipe I've found for tamales, and we got a lot of compliments on them when my sister and I made them last year. We wrapped ours a little differently, and we made some bite-sized ones, as well, for parties. They were a hit!

Well, I got the turtles a larger tank, a filter, a little heater and a turtle dock to sit on. They seem to be happy with some deeper water to play in, and seem to enjoy the filter’s little waterfall action. I also bought them a little can of meal worms, of which I cut up one, and tossed in the tank – I hope they like them.

They are really cute little guys – I wish I had a way to put up pictures of them but you’ll have to settle for pics I found online that are very much like them.

This is what Godzilla looks like. He’s the yellow eared slider, and they apparently aren’t very photogenic, cause I had a heck of a time finding a picture to post.

This is what Red looks like. (My son hasn’t named him yet. This is the sick one, and I think he’s afraid to name him until he knows if he’ll make it.) He’s the red-eared slider.

This is KIND OF what No Name looks like. (The kids call this one “Dad’s turtle”, and he hasn’t gotten a name yet.) This one always looks pissed off, but I think it’s his markings, more than his disposition. I could be wrong, though! I’m not sure what type of turtle he is, yet. Possibly a cooter? He’s got a very beautiful and intricate design on his carapace.
