So…I’m back from my California trip in once piece, slightly more sunburnt than before, and needing a vacation from my vacation.

It was an interesting trip! We got about 260 miles from home, to a tiny little town called Coachella, CA before our transmission blew, and we (Thank you God) coasted down an exit ramp, and right in front of a gas station. After a very frustrating couple of hours (and a call to [livejournal.com profile] illmantrim for help figuring out the mileage so I could figure out if we could afford a rental car upgrade), we were on the road again in a rented Dodge Durango. They wanted us to take a Ford Focus…for a family of four and all of our luggage. Riiiiight.

We made it to Anaheim, checked into out hotel, which was a scant five minute walk to Disneyland. We spent the afternoon/early evening in the park. It was crowded and hot, but it was still fun. We spent three days going between Disneyland and California Adventure, and wore ourselves out. I got to ride most of my favorites from when I was a kid: Tea cups, Dumbo, Small World…the classics.

It was a little startling at the end of the first day to realize that I had sore feet from walking so much during the course of the day… when less than a year ago, I was near death and dependant upon a walker to take a few feeble steps at a time. Put in that perspective, I have never been so glad to have sore feet in my life!

From Anaheim we headed to Carlsbad where we stayed about two miles from Legoland, and spent about two days there. It was fun, and kids bought tons of Bionicles. I got a couple of X-Pods (little round boxes with enough lego blocks to build about four different little things) to keep in my bag to entertain the kids while at restaurants and such. Carlsbad has grown up in the two years since I had been there, but still has the quaint little stretch of pretty houses and shoreline you can drive along, and just enjoy the scenery.

From there, we went to San Diego and stayed at the Kona Kai resort hotel on Shelter Island, which was very nice. We met up with my husband’s uncle and had dinner with him both nights we were there. I had forgotten how much I love fresh seafood. I wanted to kiss the chef at Brigatine full on the mouth after our dinner there. It was that good.

We went to the San Diego Zoo, as well, and saw the pandas – the baby panda was sleeping in a tree practically over our heads and was adorable! It’s a BIG zoo! I don’t know that we saw everything there was to see, but the bus tour was a big help. I must admit, I still have a soft spot for capybaras, though I couldn’t say why. I always think of the Princess Bride, and the Rodents Of Unusual Size.

We went to Sea Port Village where I got a couple of fun books from the Upstart Crow bookstore… The Lexicon of Stupidity was an easy and funny read.

At any rate, on our last day there, we went to the Science Center at Balboa Park, then decided to head for home.

I did get some drabbles written, though I am not especially happy with them. I will try to get them typed up soon and post them here in my journal as promised.

But for now, I have a weeks’ worth of laundry to catch up on, and I am tired. I am hoping to do a little RP tonight at [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar, but I’ll have to see if I can stay awake for that long.

On Monday, I start my diet, and so one of my shiney new notebooks is going to become my food journal. My goal is to lose at least twenty pounds by Hallowe'en. Shouldn't be too hard, I just have to be diligent with my calorie counting-- I will be allowed 1550 calories a day to start, which is actually a lot of food if you eat properly. Wish me luck (and self-control!)

**HUGS to everyone**

I hope everyone is well!

Link of the day- I may have posted this one before, but it was a while ago if I did. Check it out! Su Doku puzzle generator!
