My son is going on his very first field trip today with his class and he is SO excited! They are going to a dairy, and he can wait to see “baby chickies”. I’ll never hear the end of it if they don’t have any!

Now, onto today’s rant:

Why do people start fics and not finish them? What is it that compels so many people to invite others to read their work, and then abandon them? Isn’t that kind of like inviting people over for dinner and then telling them that you forgot to buy food? It just…irks me.

Has anyone else had this problem? I began reading “Harry Potter and the Dance of the Warrior” by LordDragon, and was really getting into it! It was well written, and while it was a Super Powered Harry story, it wasn’t over the top and inexplicable as so many of them are. Then, the author started her own Yahoo! group, and promptly quit writing. I cannot begin to convey how frustrated that makes me! And this story is only one example – I have at least a half dozen stories that I was following that had ENORMOUS potential, and then they’ve just been abandoned! It makes me want to weep at the injustice of it all.

So how about you guys? Which (good) fics have you read that were just dropped? Perhaps an enmasse plea to the authors might jolt them into action?? It might be worth a try. BTW – Year of Rebellion doesn’t count as an abandoned fic (even though I haven’t read it) because, dude, the author has brain cancer. That is the one excuse no one can complain about!
