Happy Birthday, Daddy!
Mar. 31st, 2010 07:26 pmToday would have been my dad's 76th birthday! It's hard to believe he's been gone for almost fourteen years!
He was a grumpy, geeky funny man who always provided for us and loved us beyond all reason. He couldn't stand to see any of his girls cry, and would pace worriedly until my mother arrived and told her to go and take care of whatever was the matter.
I remember trips to Dairy Queen for no reason at all, Twizzlers on long road trips, his tone-deaf whistling, the way he dubbed in the words to silent Mighty Mouse movies and corny jokes. I loved how he would laugh so hard that he could only wheeze. I even appreciate how he hid in my closet until I was almost asleep that one time, and jumped out, yelling, "RAAAAAAAAAAAWR!!!"
He yelled a lot (just like I do) about everything, even when he wasn't mad. You could ask him for five dollars, and he'd grouse about how money didn't grow on trees and how we were draining him dry...while taking out his wallet and handing you ten dollars, instead.
Her was an awesome dad, and I hope he's partying it up in heaven!
